Citation is a serious provider with genuine veterinary heritage, and it publishes its terms openly. Read them and you will find long terms, automatic renewal and annual increases. Vet HR is built the other way: engagements you choose per project or per month, priced in writing first.
Long contracts are a bet that nothing about your practice will change for years. Short commitments have to stay good to stay kept.
Citation has worked with the veterinary sector since 2001 through SPVS and is a company member of the Veterinary Management Group, by its own vets page. If you want HR and health and safety in one long contract with one large provider, it deserves a fair look.
Vet HR is the opposite shape: a vet only specialist you engage for a fixed price project or a monthly subscription, with systems built under your branding rather than licensed from a platform, and pricing quoted in writing before any work begins.
Citation publishes its terms and conditions openly, credit to them. These points come from that document, version 05, November 2025, as checked in July 2026.
Citation's pricing example is based on its Workplace Expert package over a seven year term, with three to five year terms available. The published terms state the contract renews automatically for a further period equal to the initial term unless written notice is given at least six months before the term ends. Diarise that window the day you sign.
From the first anniversary, the published terms allow charges to rise once a year by the greater of 3 per cent or UK RPI. Over a long term that compounds quietly. Model the final year price, not the first year price, before you compare providers.
The published terms state that the licence to use Citation's templates, handbooks and policies ends when the contract ends. Ask precisely what your practice would keep on leaving, and budget for replacing whatever you would not.
Every system carries your practice's name and branding, not ours. These are the ones that matter most here.
For HR and employment documentation, yes. Citation also provides retained health and safety consultancy, e-learning libraries and ISO certification services, which we do not. We focus on HR for veterinary practices and say so plainly when something sits outside that.
Read your agreement and find the end date of the current term, then count back six months: the published terms require written notice at least six months before the term ends to avoid automatic renewal for a further equal period. Put both dates in the practice diary today, whatever you later decide.
Contracts and policies we draft for your practice are written for you and stay with you. Our systems are white labelled under your branding, and if a subscription ends we do not lock your documents behind an expired licence.
We are an HR consultancy, not a retained health and safety provider. Our See It Report It system gives you structured incident and near miss records, and we work alongside whichever safety adviser you choose rather than bundling one in.
Leave your details and we'll get back to you, usually within a few hours.
Thanks! We've got your message and will be in touch shortly.
