Considering Crocodile HR?

The Crocodile HR alternative for when software is not enough.

Crocodile publishes its prices, offers a free trial and keeps things simple, which deserves credit. It is also software only: on its published pages, nobody answers your employment law questions. Vet HR pairs staff systems with an actual HR consultancy, built solely for veterinary practices.

01What makes it different

Software stores the records. It does not decide the disciplinary.

Crocodile describes itself as all in one HR software for small businesses, with holiday tracking, records, documents and a mobile app, priced in published bands. For a practice that only needs the admin layer, that may honestly be enough.

The hard part of practice HR is rarely storage. It is the grievance nobody saw coming, the contract for a part time RVN with irregular hours, the rota that keeps collapsing. Vet HR gives you the systems and the consultant, so the record keeping and the judgement live in one place.

02What to check

Three things to check before choosing Crocodile.

Taken from crocodile.hr's own published pages, as checked in July 2026.

01

Know what you are buying: software, not advice

Crocodile's pages describe an HR software product. No human advice line appears on any page we could find. Ask who will answer your employment law questions when a disciplinary, a flexible working request or a resignation letter lands, because the software will not.

02

Check the terms beyond the trial

Pricing is published in clear bands, credit to them, and the 14 day trial can be cancelled at any time. What is not published is what applies afterwards: minimum term, notice period and how prices change. Ask before the trial ends, not after.

03

Check the veterinary depth

The veterinary page lists payroll management while the product pages describe payroll ready reports, and the feature set reads the same as the other sector pages. Confirm in a demo exactly what exists, and whether anything is genuinely veterinary specific rather than positioning.

03The systems

White-labelled systems, mapped to your kind of practice.

Every system carries your practice's name and branding, not ours. These are the ones that matter most here.

  • Holiday calculations: Automatic entitlement and accrual including irregular hours staff, checked by people who know the rules, not just stored by software.
  • Rota system: Built around clinic days, out of hours cover and swaps, not a generic shift planner with a vet page in front of it.
  • Custom builds: When the off the shelf feature list stops short of what your practice needs, we build the missing tool under your branding.
04Questions

Asked by practices like yours.

Crocodile is cheaper. Why pay for Vet HR?

If all you need is holiday tracking and a tidy staff database, an off the shelf tool at a published price may genuinely be the right call, and we will tell you so. Vet HR exists for practices where the hard part is deciding what to do: contracts, disputes, rotas, inspections. You get systems and a consultant, not just a login.

Does Vet HR publish prices like Crocodile does?

No, because every practice's build is different. What we promise instead: a written quote per practice before any work begins, no surprise extras, and a free HR health check first so you know whether we are worth quoting at all.

Can we keep simple software and still use Vet HR?

Yes. Plenty of practices start with a fixed price consultancy project, contracts or a policy suite, while keeping whatever admin tools already work for them. Systems can come later, or never. The quote tells you exactly what you are choosing between.

Is Vet HR suitable for very small practices?

Yes. We work with independent UK practices from roughly five staff upwards, and small teams are usually where a single HR mistake costs proportionally most. The free health check is the honest way to find out what you actually need.
