About Vet HR

We picked one industry and stayed.

Vet HR exists because veterinary practices kept being served by two kinds of company that did not quite fit: HR providers who did not understand practices, and software vendors who did not do HR.

01The story

It started with a practice, not a business plan. Vet HR sits exactly in the gap.

Vet HR began with building staff systems for a working UK veterinary practice: rota, leave and hours, the unglamorous machinery of a clinical week. Sitting inside that work made one thing obvious. The hard part of practice HR is not knowing the law exists, it is running a small clinical team where the rota, the contracts, the policies and the people problems are all tangled together, and everyone is busy.

Generic HR providers answer the law question and miss the practice. Veterinary software answers the diary and misses the people. Vet HR sits exactly in the gap: HR advice and operational systems, built around how a practice actually runs, consults, surgeries, out-of-hours and all.

We are based in Portsmouth and work with practices across the UK, remotely and responsively. The founder is Gianbattista Porru, who still builds the systems and still answers the phone.

From the founder

One specialist, one industry, one number to call.

There is no account-management layer between you and the person doing the work. Gianbattista Porru builds the systems, gives the advice and picks up the phone, so the practice you speak to on the first call is the practice you keep working with.

02What we believe

Three working principles.

Principle one
Sector expertise beats scale.

We work with UK veterinary practices and nobody else. The questions that make generalists pause are our normal Tuesday.

Veterinary only, by design
Principle two

Clear, compliant advice

Plain English, current law, and an honest "this needs a solicitor" on the rare day it does. No scare tactics, ever.

Principle three

Flexible support

One-time fixes, ongoing subscription, custom systems, or all three. The practice chooses the shape, and we work every day, because you do.

03How we work with practices

Calmly, in this order.

No pressure at any step. Practices that feel looked after stay, and that is the entire business model.

1

Free HR health check

Every engagement starts with a free HR health check: a 30-minute conversation and a plain-English verdict on where your practice stands.

2

You choose the shape

From there it is your call: a fixed-price project to close the gaps, a subscription for cover all year, or a system build when the spreadsheets have had their day.

3

Looked after, all year

No pressure at any step. Practices that feel looked after stay, and that is the entire business model.
